Definitions of our criteria for performance:

  • RAIN – If you plan on storing your vehicle outdoors where you can expect rain, consider our ratings for how much rain will be absorbed by each cover. While none of the covers are completely waterproof (to allow air circulation so the heat and moisture can evaporate), some provide better protection from rain than others.
  • SNOW – Snow that accumulates on your outdoor car cover eventually melts, and some of absorbed by the material. The highest rated car covers have the lowest absorption rates.
  • ACID RAIN – Acid rain can be very damaging, and all of our Covercraft outdoor car covers provide protection from acid rain.
  • DIRT / DUST – Depending on the permeability of the fabrics, some outdoor car covers offer better dirt and dust protection than others.
  • UV (sun) DAMAGE - How good is the fabric at blocking UV rays from the vehicles surface and interior? The “best” fabrics provide 100% UV protection.
  • BIRD DROPPINGS – Best fabrics will not allow bird droppings to permeate the material and reach the exterior of the vehicle.
  • TREE SAP – Tree sap is difficult to remove from exterior surfaces. The “best” rated fabrics offer the best protection from this damaging nuisance.
  • BREATHABILITY – It is important to allow air circulation under your outdoor car cover so that heat and moisture cannot buildup underneath and cause damage to your vehicle.
  • HEAT INSULATION – If you store your vehicle outdoors on a hot day, you know how much heat can accumulate under a car cover. Thicker fabrics provide better protection from this.
  • SOFT TOUCH – A car cover itself should never be damaging to your car’s finish, and with Covercraft outdoor car covers, the soft inner layer provides excellent protection for your paint job.
  • DING PROTECTION – Thicker fabrics offer better protection from minor scratches and dings, and this car cover chart makes it clear which fabrics provide the best protection.
  • EASE OF HANDLING IN THE WIND – How easy is the cover to install and remove in windy conditions? Generally, fabrics with higher weight per square yard are easier to handle.
  • STORAGE SPACE REQUIRED – Outdoor car covers can vary in bulk for storage, but our car cover guide tells you which car covers require the least amount of space.
  • MILDEW / ROT RESISTANT - All Covercraft fabrics are treated with inhibitors to minimize mold and mildew.
